The materials:
Steamed ash wood:
Besides beech and oak, ash is one of the most important indigenous deciduous timbers. It is to be found in Europe, most frequently in the more northerly regions. For our purposes, the wood is briefly heated to a very high temperature. In this process, it attains high resistance to water, the grain is accentuated and the wood takes on its brown colour. In order to preserve the naturalness of the surface, however, it is treated only with oil, not lacquered. This provides the wood with perfect protection against water and makes it particularly long-lasting.
Due to the fact that it is a natural material, the colour can vary to that of our depictions.
Pure badger hair brush head:
Wet-shave and facial massage in one; this is possible thanks to pure badger hair. The natural material with its darker colour, from brownish grey to black, is a reflection of its extremely robust quality. The hair is stronger than silvertip and fine badger, yet softer and much more flexible than bristle material. The brush head builds a fine, generous lather for your shave.
Synthetic fibres have meanwhile attained a quality just as good as natural hair, lasting long without too much maintenance necessary. We recommend our Black Fibre Shaving Set (vegan).
Use:
Shaving with a traditional razor requires some practice. The skin also needs some time to adjust to such a shave. The following instructions make the start easier:
Wet your facial hair with warm water and lather up the shaving soap in circular movements with your shaving brush. The longer you lather up the beard, the easier and gentler the hair allows itself to be cut.
Use one of our extra moisturising shaving soaps to allow for an optimum glide of your razor over your skin. Be sure that the razor head sits tightly on its handle, without screwing it so tightly that it isn’t easily unscrewed. Like this, the razor blade should sit at just the right angle.
Now you can start your shave: Hold the razor as flat on skin as possible (ca. 30°). Beginning on the cheek, allow the razor to glide with light pressure over your skin. Always shave in the direction of beard hair growth. Shave the neck area by pulling skin tight with your hand. Don’t be discouraged by small cuts at the beginning, for these diminish once better acquainted with the tools.
We sell replacement razor blades.
